Thank you for visiting the City of Sumner online. If you’re a resident, I hope this helps you navigate around your city and its government. If you’re not, I hope this gives you some flavor of the beautiful city of Sumner—just enough to make it irresistible to visit us in person.
It is an honor and a privilege to be mayor of Sumner. This is a wonderful town that has so much going for it. It has the quaintness of yesteryear with the vision of the future. It’s nestled in the valley with easy access to two of Washington’s fine, larger cities.
I like Sumner best because it’s a place where people care. We care enough to greet one another as we're walking around town. We care enough to get involved in local government. We care enough to have great celebrations like the Daffodil Parade and the Music Off Main.
Now, we need to figure out how to take this level of caring into a new age. Maybe people don’t chat over the back fence as much, but they do visit online chat rooms. Maybe the barbershop isn’t the place to hear the latest news, but you can watch council meetings in your home on cable TV. So, please wander through this site as if you were wandering from Sumner Avenue to Valley Avenue. Learn about the City of Sumner, and find ways, even new ways, to keep Sumner caring.
I believe that you and I have been entrusted with this great heritage here at Sumner. Let’s build on that heritage and set the standard of excellence for a progressive small city in the 21st Century.
