SUMNER POLICE DEPARTMENT PERMIT TO POSSESS A FIREARM--RENEWAL
(If you live outside the City Limits of Sumner, you will be directed to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department or the city agency where you reside.)
STEP (1) Fill out the application. (PDF) The cost of the permit is a non-refundable payment of $32.00 for a five year license. The fee must be paid at the time you submit your renewal application.
STEP (2) Show your current license and picture identification to the records clerk. They will confirm that you live inside the city limits of Sumner, and take a copy of your current license.
STEP (3) We will do a background check on you. This process takes approximately 30 days from the date of application. If your permit should expire during this time, do not be concerned. The time we are concerned with is the date you applied for the renewal, that is the date we use.
STEP (4) After we have received a clear background check on you, we will send your new CPL in the mail.
Expired Permits: If your permit has expired, you can still renew it if IT HAS NOT EXPIRED OVER 90 DAYS. You need to follow the above steps; however, the fee will be $42.00. (There is a $10.00 late charge)
If your permit has expired beyond 90 days, you will need to apply for an original permit. (Ask the Records Clerk for details)
