Sumner's Senior Center offers a full range of services, meals and activities for persons aged 55 years and over.  Below is an overview of services provided at the Senior Center.  For specific dates and times of services, visit this month's edition of the Seniors of Sumner newsletter.

May 20—Tour of Local Nurseries (Windmill, Vassey's, Watson's)

June 3—Ocean Shores and Lunch at Alec's by the Sea

    DEPARTURE: 9 AM

    COST: $12 (lunch on your own)

 

June 30—Mt. St. Helens

    DEPARTURE: 9:30 AM

    COST: $15 (bring your lunch or buy it there)

 

July 17—Lavender Festival in Sequim

    DEPARTURE: 7 AM

    COST: $15 (bring your lunch)

 

 

To sign up and pay for a trip, contact Denise Schultz All trips require advance, full payment.  Please pay with exact amount as the Senior Center does not maintain funds for change. 

If you must cancel, there will be no refunds.  If canceling due to an emergency illness, the program coordinator will consider a refund if the emergency is verfied by a doctor.

 

ACTIVITIES

Daily Activities

You can sit back and enjoy live music or try something new, ranging from tai chi to line dancing, painting to pinochle. 

 

Mountain Valley Art Club
Once a month, the Mountain Valley Art Club will meet at the Center to learn new techniques from one another and critique each other's work. From time to time, they will invite a famous artist to be their guest and share his or her talent.

 

"Senior Sparks"
Come and enjoy a fun evening of games, music, laughter, fellowship and good food.

 

MEALS

Meal Site Lunches
We have a Catholic Community Services Meal Site, which provides a hot nutritional meal served at 11:45 am, Monday-Friday. A suggested donation of $2.50 is requested from those 60 +. The cost is $5.00 for those under 60.

Meals on Wheels
Seniors just home from the hospital or recovering from illness are eligible to have hot lunches delivered to their home. Frozen meals are also available. Please call the Sumner Senior Center and speak with
Lindy Kurtz, our Meal Site manager, for more information. A suggested donation is $2.00 per meal; however, payment is not a prerequisite for receiving meals.

 

HEALTH SERVICES

Blood Pressure Checks
There will be free blood pressure checks at the Senior Center.

 

Senior Foot Clinic
Clinic staff provide foot care on a pedicure level. They can trim and file toenails, buff corns, and calluses, and monitor any other foot problems for diabetics and clients with poor circulation. The staff will refer clients with problems to their family physician or podiatrist. Persons age 60 and older can utilize this service. Fees are based on a sliding fee scale based on family size and income. No one will be refused because of inability to pay. You must make an appointment at least one month in advance.

 

Good Samaritan Mobile Health Unit
Once a month, a Good Sam nurse will be at the Senior Center to provide you with various health services, information, free blood pressure checks, and immunizations (upon request).
