HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
Be part of saving Sumner’s historic past for the future.
We’re looking for volunteers for the new Historic Preservation Commission. This new commission will identify and actively encourage the conservation of Sumner’s historic resources. The commission will put together and maintain a register of historic places and review proposed changes to register properties. If you’re interested in saving Sumner’s architectural history, this is a great way to get involved.
Qualifications This is a volunteer position, and all potential commissioners must have an interest and/or demonstrated competence in historic preservation. Of the five positions, two must be filled by professionals who have experience in identifying, evaluating, and protecting historic resources and work in such fields as architecture, history, architectural history, planning, folklore, cultural anthropology, curation, conservation, landscape architecture or related fields. The remaining positions will be filled by citizens with an interest in historic preservation. Commissioners should live within the City of Sumner, but exceptions may be made for professionals in the areas listed above who reside in neighboring jurisdictions.
How to Participate Fill out an application for a Commissioner position and note that you’re applying for the Historic Preservation Commission. Turn it in as instructed on the form, and you’re on your way!
Questions? Contact Community Development Director Paul Rogerson.
What if I have a property that I want to place on the new register? Since the brand new preservation efforts center on the work of a Commission, we’re trying to get that Commission up and running to have the process in place to work effectively with property owners such as yourself. However, if you’d like us to take your name, address and phone number, we’ll be happy to pass that along to the new Commission as soon as they form. | |
